Do I need a visa to go to Thailand?

Thailand generously welcomes travellers from 64 countries and territories, allowing visa-free entry for tourism purposes for varying durations. Here's a breakdown of which nationalities can visit Thailand without a visa and for how long:

UK citizens

For our friends from the United Kingdom, Thailand offers 30 days of visa-free entry for leisurely exploration. Need more time to soak in the Thai vibes? You're in luck—extend your stay once for an additional 30 days. But remember, if your adventure calls for a longer duration or a different purpose, you'll want to delve deeper into the world of Thai visas.

US citizens

United States citizens, your Thai adventure begins with a 30-day visa-free entry, just like our UK counterparts. Extend your stay for another 30 days if you're captivated by Thailand's allure. However, if your travel ambitions transcend these limits or if you have unique plans, you'll need to navigate the visa options.

EU citizens

Citizens of European Union member countries also enjoy 30 days of visa-free exploration in Thailand. Extensions may be possible, but for those yearning for a more extended stay or specific endeavours, it's time to delve into the array of visa choices.

How to get a Thailand visa?

If your nationality requires a visa for Thailand, or if you plan to stay longer than the permitted visa-free duration, you have several options for obtaining a Thailand visa:

Applying for an E-Visa online

One of the most convenient methods is applying for an E-Visa online. Thailand offers electronic visas for tourism, allowing you to complete the application process from the comfort of your home. Visit the official website and create an account to apply.

Applying via the embassy or consulate

For those who appreciate the traditional route, Thai embassies and consulates worldwide stand ready to assist. Pack your passport, visa application form, and supporting documents, and make a visit in person. The processing times can vary, so do plan accordingly.

Thailand visa on arrival

For select nationalities, Thailand provides a visa-on-arrival option. This allows you to obtain a visa upon your arrival at specific entry points in Thailand. However, it's crucial to check your eligibility and the associated requirements before choosing this option — and be prepared to pay the visa fee.

How long is a Thailand visa valid?

The Visa Exemption rule allows tourists from selected countries to stay in Thailand for up to 30 days.

If you’re required to get a visa because of your nationality, or wish to stay longer, the duration of your Thailand visa will vary with the visa type. Tourist visas typically grant a 60-day stay from the date of entry, but other visa categories may differ.

How much does a Thailand Visa cost?

Visa fees vary depending on the visa type, your nationality and the application method.

A single-entry tourism visa is good for three months and will typically set you back around 3500 BDT (32 USD). A longer tourist visa of 6 months costs roughly 17000 BT (or 150 USD). An eVisa tends to be cheaper than obtaining a visa in person.

Can I extend my visa while in Thailand?

For those who've fallen head over heels for Thailand and wish to prolong their stay, fret not. Extending your visa while within Thailand is possible. Head over to the nearest immigration office, but remember, the rules and eligibility criteria vary depending on your visa type. Seek guidance from Thai immigration authorities during your Thai escapade.
