Directly behind the train station begins Vesterbro, home to Copenhagen’s red-light district and one of the most cosmopolitan areas in the city. It has a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants as well as the Københavns Bymuseum, which covers the city’s history, with an elaborate banquet hall upstairs used for classical concerts. While the area is perfectly safe to walk around, male travellers may want to give Istedgade a wide berth at night to avoid being propositioned.
