Going in and out via Thailand, spending about 50 days in each of Laos and Cambodia, What sort of Thai visa do I need. I am British.
You need to be a little more detailed here. Are you staying in Thailand for 50 days, Laos for 50 days and Cambodia for 50 days? Or is it 50 days total?
For UK citizens a 30 day visa on arrival is issued upon landing if you arrive by air, or a 15 day visa on arrival if you arrive overland. No fee is required for either of these.
So basically you can fly into Thailand, stay for up to 30 days, and then get another fresh 15 days when you come back over the border (land crossing) or another 30 days if you fly back in.
If you want to stay longer than 30 days in Thailand you will need to obtain the 60 day tourist visa from any Thai embassy before you arrive.

I am also assuming here you are aware of the need for Cambodian and Laos visas?
Pretty much what Michael said.
Also, be aware that you will be asked to pay a “stamping fee” when entering and exiting both Cambodia and Laos.
Unfortunately, I only ended up not paying it once and my excuse was simply that I don’t have $1 USD.
See whether that works for you!
Returning to my question
Plan to fly to Bangkok 2nd December and out 30 January
Cross land border to Laos, on to Cambodia (or vice-versa)
spending 25 days or so in each of these 2 countries, getting a 30 day visa for each
1 which of Laos and Cambodia should I visit 1st?
2 can I get free visas for Thailand – first at Bangkok, and later when I return to Thailand by land
1. Whichever one you like. It doesn’t matter.
2. Erm, read the above? Visas for UK citizens in Thailand are free.
