I have planned an extensive trip around Sri Lanka. We are hiring a van and driver for the trip and part of itinerary involves a trip up the east coast. Would anyone know how long it would take to go from Arugam Bay to Pasikudah. We are traveling with 2 children (5 and 7). If it going to be too long, we would consider a stopover, but can’t seem to find any hotels on the route. Could anyone help.
The A4 coastal road from Arugam Bay up to Valaichchenai (a few km from Pasikudah) was upgraded a few years ago, so you shouldn’t have any issues with bad road surfaces. It’s about 150km from Arugam Bay to Pasikudah, so – if the traffic’s good – you should get there within three hours and shouldn’t need an overnight stopover.
Hope that helps,
Thanks Helen that helps a lot. We are going for 4 weeks ago.. still not enough to fit everything we want to do.
4 weeks is good enough to get the feel of Sri Lanka.
I just went to Batti yesterday, from Arugam Bay and back.
It takes only 2 hrs. or so these days; the roads are perfect.
Around Akkaraipattu a few holiday homes have sprung up – simple huts on the beach.
But no real point to break a journey there.
AbaY, in our opinion, Sri Lanka’s most promising resort to come.
The Bay is just waking up – but it has a huge potential.
Plan to stay there – longer!
