I am interested in visiting some markets on my trip to Morocco. What are the best ones that you would recommend?
Every town has a market, so you’re spoilt for choice really. And in big cities like Marrakesh and Fez, the souks can seem endless, with different sections specialising in different goods. The souks in Meknes make a good introduction, and there’s a particularly good produce market just off the main square, Place el Hedim.
Rural towns and villages have souk days throughout the week (except Fridays), though one I would definitely recommend is the Tuesday souk at Azrou in the Middle Atlas, an excellent place to pick up quality Berber carpets.
