Southwest of the church are the modest remains of the Curtea Veche (Old Court), Vlad the Impaler’s fifteenth-century citadel. Dating from 1559, the adjacent Old Court Church is Bucharest’s oldest church. Inside the large white building opposite the church you’ll find the lush courtyard of the Hanul lui Manuc Inn, the city’s most famous hostelry, though it’s currently closed and awaiting its fate. The inn’s southern wall forms one side of Piața Unirii, which is where the old Bucharest makes way for the new.
