Storno House and Firewatch Tower

Share

The Renaissance Storno House exhibits Roman, Celtic and Avar relics, plus mementoes of Liszt. North of here rises Sopron’s symbol, the Firewatch Tower, founded upon the stones of a fortress originally laid out by the Romans. From the top there’s a stunning bird’s-eye view of the town. The “Gate of Loyalty” at the base of the tower commemorates the townfolk’s decision to remain part of Hungary when offered the choice of Austrian citizenship in 1921.
