Uphill from Dobó István tér is the castle. You may baulk at the cost of the exhibitions here, but it is certainly worth paying to enter the castle grounds – you get a powerful sense from the inside of the sheer scale of the fortress, which is very well preserved. You can easily imagine the soldiers and local women (who volunteered to join in) in 1552 seeing off a Turkish force allegedly six times their number.
