Arrival and information

Three main roads radiate from the busy road junction at Sanganwa Chowk in the centre of Rajkot: Dhebar Road heads south, past the state bus stand, 100m away; Lakhajiraj Road goes east, through the old city; and Jawahar Road runs north, past Alfred High School (Gandhi’s former school, and now officially named Mahatma Gandhi High School, though most people still use its old name) and Jubilee Gardens towards Rajkot Junction Station, 2km northeast (get off here rather than at City Station if arriving by train), and the airport 4km northwest.

Rajkot’s rather redundant tourist office (Mon–Sat 10.30am–1.30pm & 2–6pm, closed 2nd and 4th Sat of month; t 0281/223 4507) is off Jawahar Road, north of Sanganwa Chowk behind the State Bank of Saurashtra; look for the blue ATM sign as the bank’s name is in Gujarati. The post office is on Sadar Road, off Jawahar Road opposite Jubilee Gardens. For internet access, try Buzz Cyber Café (Rs15/hr), opposite Lord’s Banquet.
