Things to do in Stockholm

Hello,

I’m off to Stockholm for the weekend – what would anyone recommend? Anyone know some good bars, restaurants, good neighbourhoods to go out in, interesting things to see and do etc etc?

Thanks very much,

Alice

  • Hi Alice

For your culture fix, head to the National Museum. For your meatballs fix, try Pelikan, an atmospheric Swedish beer hall in the trendy Södermalm district. This area is also great for shopping and nightlife – so-called SoFo (south of Folkungagatan and east of Götgatan) is packed with vintage stores and quirky boutiques. Pet Sounds, a groovy record shop/bar hybrid on Skånegatan, is worth seeking out.

Wander round the old town (Gamla Stan), trying to resist the temptation to pick up Scandi knickknacks to take home.

Don’t leave Stockholm without taking a boat trip. Head to the modern art museum on Skeppsholm island or venture further out into the archipelago (though some of the islands will be closed at this time of year).

    Have fun!

Hi Alice, my favorite places in Stockholm are old town and Skansen and Vasa Museums on Djurgarden island. And of course you must take a boat trip – they are amazing! I also would like to share a tip for inexpensive accommodation – it’s Acco Hostel – http://www.accohostel.com. Hope it can be of help to anyone planning a trip to Stockholm!

  • Hi Alice! As for bars ad cafes I would suggest ‘Allmäna Galleriet’ (AG) for excellent meat, ‘El Diablo’ for Latin-European fusion, ‘Spisa hos Helena’ for regular Swedish food, ‘Mäster Anders’ for Swedish/French classic bistro food, and ‘Olé Olé’ for tapas. They are all located on Kungsholmen island – it is the very center of the city not far from the Central Station. Also on Kungsholmen City Hall, Ralambshov Park and most famous Stockholm beaches are located. And from City Hall you can take free city tour and a water trip. Also on this island is located once of my favorite hostels – http://www.lodge32.se – I always stay there when I come to Stockholm
