South America for 3 months in November

Hi All,

I’m planning a solo trip to South America in November 2014 and would love to know any secret (!) or amazing highlights/must do’s.

I’d really love to see the glaciers in Argentina, spend some time in Bolivia, the Galapagos Islands and Peru. But I’d also like some beach time – any recommendations? I can take 3 months off to do it.

Also, have any female travellers done this area solo? And if so was it all OK? I’m going it alone and although have travelled lots, I’m for some reason a bit more nervous about S.A.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @chestynuts

You’ve definitely come to the right place for South America recommendations! We’ve got entire pages of information on our site about countries in South America, here are a few to get you started (each one had a Things Not To Miss gallery which you can use to find the ‘must sees’ in each destination):

Ecuador (for Galapagos):

There are also already a few threads on this subject on the Community, see this for some more ideas:

Plenty of my friends and family, and loads of my Rough Guides colleagues have travelled across South America, alone and in groups, men and women, and it’s proven to be a safe continent as long as you’re sensible and use common sense (as with most destinations).

Be sure to use the search bar in the top right of our website to look for more information on each country you’re planning to visit – we’ve hundreds of features in our Rough Stuff section with plenty of advice and inspiration for your trip!

Have an amazing time, and do let us know if you have any more burning questions about South America!
