Missing things from home

I have been living in Australia for a while and miss some home comforts like certain foods and my favourite jumper. It’s really expensive for my parents to post these things out to the other side of the world. Does anyone know a cheap way of getting these things across the pond?

Hi Bev, I’d try getting some quotes from http://www.ipostparcels.com/ and http://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk. They can sometimes undercut the big courier companies and parcelforce. Sending by sea will obviously save you cash but involves a four to six week wait.

Be careful posting food to Australia – the rules are just as strict as when you arrive by plane (a pot of marmite should be ok though!):

  • Possibly even worse than missing things from home – missing things from your trip that you can’t get at home! I have a bottle of this strange, smoky homemade chilli sauce from Honduras that I only allow myself to use on special occasions…

  • Hi Neil
I suffer from that aswell when I’m home. I really miss the different flavoured pisco drinks you can get in Peru, but unfortunately I’m not as restrained as you and my bottle went far too quickly!!

  • Rather than using a courier, why not try air freight forwarders ( see http://www.radiuslogistics.co.uk/air-freight-forwarders/ as an example ) They work with a network of agents all over the world but don’t have the large overheads of traditional courier companies. I use them for my glass business Boha Glass and they are almost always cheaper than the big names.

  • Hello there, I used once this http://www.telsgroup.com/ company when I needed a small parcel to be delivered, for me it wasn’t expensive. Though Australia is pretty far, well check them out, anyway.
