I've only bought a one way

I’m going to my aunts holiday resort in Mayalsia for a while at the end of the month, I’m flying into Singapore but I’m worried that I won’t be let in the country as I don’t have a return or any evidence of coming out of the country. I haven’t booked a return as I’m not sure if I’m going to stay out there for a few weeks or a couple of months.

Technically (I’m assuming you are coming from the UK?) the rules state you should have an onward ticket but the reality is you probably won’t be asked for it. Especially if you have proof of funds and a hotel to stay in.

If you want to play it safe however an old trick is to get a cheap onward ticket (say from SIN to KUL or BKK) that you can either get refunded once you are there or simply write off. You can get air tickets with airlines like Air Asia for as little as £10 or £15 (they even have a sale on at the moment!) Worth the cost for the peace of mind?

Oh, and definately stay for a couple of months if you can! ;D A few weeks or couple of months? No contest! I can’t wait to head back to Singapore and Malaysia in Feb myself! Have a great time.

  • It’s true that technically you are meant to have an onward ticket, although, as Michael says, if coming from the UK, you are unlikely to need it. However, it’s definitely worth taking the address of your aunt’s holiday resort and some written confirmation that you will be staying there, as well as proof of funds. If you also want to book an onward ticket for peace of mind, you could book a cheap bus ticket to Johor, the Malaysian state closest to Singapore, which will be more expensive in advance but still only about £5 (try http://www.easibook.com), or better yet book your transport to your aunt’s holiday resort in advance and take printouts of the tickets.

Hope that helps and have a great trip!
