Is driving from Melbourne to Sydney worthwhile?

We’re planning a trip in South Eastern Australia around cricket games taking place 5 days apart in Melbourne and Sydney. My inclination is to drive between the two to see some of the country in between, but how worthwhile will it be if we only have about 4 days to do it?

Yes! It’s a bit tight but you’re only looking at around 200km a day which is a short drive by Aussie standards. I’d suggest stopping off at: Wilsons Promontory National Park (beautiful coastal scenery and walking) and Mt Kosciuszko in the Snowy Mountains (highest peak in Australia and worth scaling simply to say you’ve done it). You can overnight in Thredbo in the mountains and of course there’s Canberra to visit – nowhere near as dull as the Aussies will lead you to believe (don’t miss the Parliament House tour). look out for the odd prickly echidna on the road. I remember doing an emergency stop to check one of these out!
