Entering/exiting Thailand

Hi guys,

I wonder if you can help. We travel to Thailand next week (with British passports) and as I understand it we get 30 days entry without need for a visa.

We plan to do some travelling around Cambodia and Vietnam over 6 weeks before we fly our of Bangkok again, are there any restrictions on re entering Thailand after the initial 30 period is up? Or will we just get a new 30 days when we re enter?

Thanks a lot!!

To get the 30-day free visa on arrival (called Visa Exemption, see http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/changes-visa-exempt.php), you have to have proof of an onward flight out of Thailand in the next 30 days. So if you are continuing your journey overland (by train, bus, etc) to Cambodia/Vietnam (or anywhere else), you won’t get the 30-day Visa Exemption when you arrive from the UK , and you’ll need a tourist visa instead (see http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/45). However, if you plan to fly to Cambodia/Vietnam and you have your flight tickets with you, you should be able to get the 30-day Visa Exemption on arrival in Thailand from the UK. If you return to Thailand from Vietnam/Cambodia by plane, you’ll get another 30-day Visa Exemption on arrival in Bangkok, but if you return to Thailand overland, you’ll only get a 15-day Visa Exemption on arrival.

Hope that helps. Do take a look at those Thai Embassy links as they explain the rules in full.
